What is Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation expands over several techniques that enhance or alter the appearance of one’s lips.
Why lip augmentation?
As we age, our lips lose volume and thin out. Tiny vertical lines appear around the upper and lower lips (“smoker’s lines” or “lipstick bleed lines”), the graceful cupid’s bow of the upper lip begins to flatten, and the upper lip lengthens and hangs over the teeth. A nicely shaped and well-defined lip can help give a glamorous, rejuvenated appearance. This is why lip augmentation has become one of the most popular procedures in facial plastic surgery today.
Lip augmentation can also be performed in younger patients, either to increase volume in people who are born with thinner lips or to increase lip definition and improve highlights.
Consultation and Procedure
During your consultation, a physician will discuss both surgical and non-surgical alternatives (lip injections) to lip enhancement and help you choose the treatment option that delivers the most natural, beautiful results.
The most common form of lip augmentation and enhancement is the use of fillers. These can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months depending on the filler chosen. Individual treatment results can vary. Touch ups are needed from time to time to keep the volume in your lips stable.
